the patch as committed suffers from last-mile problems:

  • no useful default
  • as noted in the original tread, having two separate hotkeys for these trivial functions is wasteful.

ticket:85#comment:1 makes a claim that a four-way toggle is available, but i can't confirm that. i would make the hotkey ctrl-w (for whitespace) anyway - it's closer to ctrl-s (which toggles syntax highlighing).
