There is always a possibility to contact as software vendor to the debian
maintainers to keep it updated. You as the mc verdor have bigger chance to get it updated then the users.

How come? We don't even use most distros. All we can do is to register as a "user" and file a ticket, which has the same effect or worse that what happens when "real" users ask to update a package.
Moreover, many distros have a watch mechanism that notifies them about new versions that we release automatically. If the package is not updated immediately, it's because of lack of manpower / interest, and not because they don't know about it. Special notifications from us will not change anything for the better.
"Verdors" don't have any special superpowers here.

Debian package is up to date: https://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mc.html
This is a job for distro maintainers, there is nothing we can do on our side as upstream.
