File color coding does not work on external or SATA drives

Description
When viewing panels of external or even an internal SATA drive, file color coding does not work. All file types have the same color.
I am working on Manjaro Linux X86_64, kernel 5.10.70-1, KDE Plasma 5.22.5

attached file mc_Documents is a screen shot of my home/Documents directory, where color coding works.
Attached file mc_screen1 is from a backup USB disk, where color coding does not work
