It's FAR's behaviour and it's quite convenient, especially while "Show directory sizes" has no hotkey at all.

Thank you for the ctrl-space tip. Is it documented somewhere? And how can I use it when a terminal does not support it? Probably Meta-Space would be better in this regard.

C-space relatively old hot-key (from 4.6.2-pre, IIRC) with behaviour extended in 4.7.0-pre2, docs a bit out of date. Is there terminal without support C-space? Anyway #212 allow redefine hot keys, should be merged in pre3.
use Ctrl-Space for this. after 212 you can redefine ctrl-space to F3.
